Daxxify vs. Botox vs. Letybo: What's the Difference?

"Should I get Botox, or that newer one I keep hearing about?" It's one of the most common questions I get. Between Botox, Daxxify, and Letybo, there are more wrinkle relaxer options than ever, and the names alone can make it feel more complicated than it is.

The good news: all three work in fundamentally the same way, and all three are safe, FDA-approved options when placed by a trained injector. The differences come down to how each product is formulated, how long results tend to last, and what makes the most sense for your face, your schedule, and your budget. Here's a straightforward breakdown.

What They Have in Common

Botox, Daxxify, and Letybo are all neuromodulators made from botulinum toxin type A. Each one temporarily blocks the signal (acetylcholine) that tells a muscle to contract. When the muscles between your brows or across your forehead relax, the lines created by repeated movement soften, and new creases are less likely to deepen over time.

All three are FDA-approved for moderate to severe glabellar lines, the "11s" between the eyebrows, and experienced injectors also use them in other areas such as the forehead and crow's feet. Side effects are similar across the board: mild bruising or tenderness at the injection sites, occasional headache, and, rarely, a temporary droop of the brow or eyelid if product affects a neighboring muscle. That last point is why anatomy and placement matter far more than the brand name on the vial.

Botox: The Original and Most Studied

Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) has been used cosmetically in the U.S. for over two decades and has the longest track record of any neuromodulator. Beyond aesthetics, it's approved for a wide range of medical uses, including chronic migraine and excessive sweating.

Results typically begin to appear within a few days, peak around two weeks, and last about three to four months for most people. Botox contains a small amount of human albumin as a stabilizer, which is standard for most neuromodulators. For many patients, Botox is a reliable, predictable choice, especially if they've had great results with it before.

Daxxify: Built for Longer-Lasting Results

Daxxify (daxibotulinumtoxinA) was approved by the FDA in 2022, and its main selling point is duration. In clinical trials, results lasted a median of about six months, with some patients still seeing benefit closer to nine months. That means many people can maintain results with two appointments a year instead of three or four.

Daxxify is also formulated differently. Instead of human albumin, it uses a proprietary peptide to stabilize the toxin, and it contains no animal-based ingredients. Some patients appreciate that "cleaner" formulation, and it can be a meaningful option for people who prefer to avoid human-derived components.

The trade-offs: Daxxify typically costs more per treatment, and because it lasts longer, a result you're not thrilled with also lasts longer. It's a great option once you know how your face responds to wrinkle relaxers, and a little less ideal for a very first treatment if you'd like to start conservatively. Whichever product you choose, a few simple habits can help make your results last longer.

Letybo: The Newest Option

Letybo (letibotulinumtoxinA) received FDA approval in early 2024. It isn't new everywhere: it has been used for years in South Korea and other countries, where it has a long track record. Approval in the U.S. was based on three Phase III trials with more than a thousand participants.

In practice, Letybo behaves a lot like Botox. Onset is usually within a few days, and results generally last around three to four months. It's another solid, well-studied option and adds healthy competition to the market, which can mean more choice and sometimes better value for patients.

A Quick Side-by-Side

  • Botox: FDA-approved for cosmetic use since 2002; results last about 3–4 months; contains human albumin; the most studied option.
  • Daxxify: FDA-approved in 2022; median results around 6 months; peptide-stabilized with no human albumin or animal components; usually a higher price per visit.
  • Letybo: FDA-approved in 2024; results last about 3–4 months; long history of use internationally; behaves similarly to Botox.

So Which One Is Right for You?

Honestly, the product matters less than the plan. The way your muscles move, how strong they are, your goals, and how often you want to come in all shape the recommendation. A thoughtful injector who understands facial anatomy will get better results with any of these products than a rushed treatment with the "best" one.

That said, here's how I generally think about it. If you want the longest time between appointments and already know you like your results, Daxxify is worth considering. If you want a proven, predictable option or it's your first treatment, Botox or Letybo are excellent places to start. And if you've had a product wear off faster than you'd like, switching is a reasonable conversation to have.

The Bottom Line

Botox, Daxxify, and Letybo all soften expression lines by relaxing the muscles that create them. The main differences are formulation, how long results last, and cost, not whether one is "safe" and another isn't. The right choice depends on your face and your priorities.
